Conant gets past Streamwood

Conant ended the Libertyville Winter Tournament just like it started - with a win.

The Cougars, who went 2-2 in the eight-team event, finished with a 53-48 triumph over Streamwood (4-13) on Thursday in the seventh-place game.

Conant (6-10) opened the tourney a week ago with a win over Libertyville (12-4) followed by losses to Niles West and Cary-Grove.

Three Cougars made it into double figures on Thursday, led by Stephanie Mazurek's 17 points. Hannah Shulman added 15 (all in the second half) and Abbey DiSalvo 12.

The Cougars had five 3-pointers in the game, led by Shulman's three. Rachel Kutella and Julia Flaishaker each had one.

Barrington 44, St. Charles North 43: The Fillies (5-10) got their first win in the Komaromy Classic at Dundee-Crown as Anna Mae King (three 3-pointers) fired home a career-high 17 points (15 in the second half).

Taylor Thompson (two 3-pointers) chipped in 15 points with 11 rebounds and 5 assists.

"I thought Anna Mae King really got hot shooting the ball in the second half and took some good shots for our team," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro. "Taylor Thompson had one of her best games this season at both ends of the floor.

Freshman Sydney Granby collected 10 rebounds while Shanna Turczynski had 5. Katie Tomczyk contributed 5 points and 3 rebounds.

"Syd (Granby) played well and we got some excellent time from Katie Tomczyk off the bench," Barreiro said. "I thought her defensive presence was really key down the stretch."

Tomczyk and teammate Laura Mahlum also had 3-pointers.

"I thought the kids worked hard today on the floor," Barreiro added. "They started a little slow (10-2 deficit) but bounced back nicely and fought hard against a very nice team in St. Charles North."

The Fillies trailed 24-19 at intermission.

"We made some adjustments at halftime and the kids really came out to play better that half," Barreiro added.

Barrington faces Prospect at 2 p.m. in the consolation semifinal.

"I was happy for the kids today," Barreiro said. "Now we are back at it against a good Prospect team."

Prospect 71, Resurrection 22: Prospect (8-5) posted a season-low 22 points on defense en route to evening its record at 1-1 in the Komaromy Classic at Dundee-Crown.

The Knights connected for seven 3-pointers, including three from Kayla Burns, who scored a 9 points.

Ashley Adams led Prospect with 15 points while Abbey Danciu chipped in 12 points with 8 rebounds.

Other top scorers for the Knights were Eliot Dojutrek (9 points, 2 assists) and Jessica Kowalczyk (8 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds). Teammate Ellen Sherwood produced 9 rebounds with 4 points.

Prospect faces Barrington at 2 p.m. in the consolation semifinal.

Hersey 53, Batavia 50: Hersey won its consolation game at the Montini tournament as sophomore Mary Kate Fahey delivered 16 points with a pair of 3-pointers.

Senior Emily Collins was right behind with 15 points and one 3-pointer as the Huskies improved to 10-6 and will face York on Friday at 11:30 a.m.

Mary McGrath and Maddie Jacobson each chipped in 7 points for Hersey.

Elk Grove 60, Hinsdale Central 35: Elk Grove (4-9) earned a win in the consolation bracket of the Bill Neibch Wheaton North tourney as junior guard Megan Murray scored a game-high 16 points with three 3-pointers.

Also reaching double figures for EG were freshman Lili Duckmann (12 points) and sophomore Alyssa Trausch (10). Isabella Tierney added 7 and Rachel Kandefer 6. Teammate Jaela Priester (5 points) also had a 3-pointer.

EG faces defending champion Glenbard South in today's consolation semifinal at 1:30 p.m.

Palatine 51 Jacobs 31: Palatine (2-11) earned a win in the consolation bracket of the Wheaton North tourney and moves on to play St. Charles East at noon on Friday.
