Barrington bounces back with rout of Prairie Ridge

Barrington's boys basketball team bounced back quite nicely Saturday in the opening round of the Hinkle Holiday Classic at Jacobs in Algonquin.

The Broncos, who had a tough Mid-Suburban West conference loss Friday to Palatine, rumbled to a 77-44 win over Prairie Ridge that ended with a fourth-quarter running clock.

"It was our biggest challenge coming into tonight," said Barrington coach Bryan Tucker, whose team scored just 35 points on Friday.

"Given the way we played Friday, it was a chance to get back to what we do. I thought we did some good things. We shared the ball and we executed the things we talked about."

Barrington (8-3), which finished second in the Hinkle tournament last year, had 35 points with just over 4 minutes left in the first half.

"Today we came out much more aggressive," said Damian Zivak, who is a sophomore and finished with 14 points.

"We played more as team and we kept it together. It was all about sharing the ball and running the court against this team. We really do our best and win games when we share the ball."

The game was tied at 13 when Barrington began to really spring into action. The Broncos rattled off 10 consecutive points to close out the first quarter with Jason Boock and Zivak each accounting for 5 points during that run.

Prairie Ridge (0-13) hit a couple of quick baskets to close to 23-18. Barrington then exploded with a 13-0 run with four different players scoring during that run as the Broncos opened up a 36-18 advantage with 4:08 left in the first half.

"We did a good job preparing for the game" said Boock, who would finish with 12 points. "It is good to get back on the court to prove how we can play after (Friday) night."

Mark Johnson, who played inside more with an injury that sidelined Connor Keenan said that he had to get to the boards more.

"I had to play a little bigger today," said Johnson, who finished with 12 rebounds to go with his 9 points.

"I had to get some boards and get us into transition. When we move the ball, that is when we are at our best."

Aaron Sarker, who had two of the Broncos' nine 3-pointers, said that the Broncos were able to do what they wanted offensively.

"We just worked together and moved the ball around nicely," said Sarker, who led all scorers with 16 points.

"That kind of helped. Early on I saw a couple of holes as we spread the floor no we were hitting shots. They were guarding us outside, so the lane opened up."

Dylan Keenan added 6 points for the Broncos while Will Raider and Braden Albertson each had 5 points.
