Bartlett's Hare picks up MVP honor
Mackenzie Hare of Bartlett is this week's Daily Herald girls basketball MVP.
Mackenzie Hare, Bartlett: The sharp-shooting freshman guard averaged 20.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2 steals a game as the Hawks went 3-0 last week. She made 13 shots from beyond the 3-point arc in the three wins including six against West Aurora when she scored a career-high 27 points. She followed with a double-double against Larkin - 19 points and 10 rebounds - before scoring 6 of her game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter of a 46-38 win over St. Charles East.
Holly Lueken, Downers Grove South: The 6-foot-1 senior forward/center, a Colgate recruit, started the week with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks vs. Addison Trail. Against Hinsdale South she totaled 29 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. She had a line of 15/5/5 against Downers Grove North. The Mustangs won all three games.
Savannah Guenther, Grayslake North: The senior forward/guard has been the Knights' top scoring threat the last couple of seasons, and her consistency is a big reason why the team is playing winning ball after starting the season 0-8. She scored 21 points in a 49-46 win over Grant, then poured in a career-high 30 points, as the Knights defeated North Chicago 59-28 for their fourth win in a row.
Nosa Igiehon, Wheeling: Despite being double and triple teamed, Igiehon shared team scoring honors with 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds in a 48-43 win at Buffalo Grove. The 6-foot senior center came back with a team-high 15 points and 17 rebounds in a 45-36 win over Leyden.
