Glenbard West's Taylor moves on to the next milestone

Looks like Evan Taylor wants no part of 1,000 points.

He's already plowing toward 1,100.

Three days after reaching the milestone, the Southern Illinois-bound senior scored 25 points on Monday in the Hilltoppers' 55-28 nonconference boys basketball victory over Naperville Central in Glen Ellyn.

Taylor really got his shooting touch going in the second quarter while scoring 15 points, then knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter before being taken out of the game with the Hilltoppers ahead by nearly 40 points.

Glenbard West (8-2) now heads into its holiday tournament on Saturday with solid wins over Plainfield Central, Downers Grove North and the Redhawks (1-8) at its back.

"Coming off DGN, this was a good win for us," said Taylor, who also grabbed 7 rebounds. "We just wanted to come in and play aggressive, and do what we needed to do. It was a good team win. I was really happy with how we played."

The Hilltoppers never trailed for the second straight game, using a 9-0 run bridging the first and second quarter to push the margin to double figures to stay. Taylor scored his team's final 13 points of the first half to give Glenbard West a stunning 40-13 halftime lead.

"We couldn't make a basket," said Redhawks coach Pete Kramer. "It's hard to beat a good team, or even stay with a good team if you can't score. I'm just disappointed."

Five straight 3-pointers in the third quarter extended a run to 22-3 and gave the Hilltoppers their biggest lead at 55-16. The night soon ended for Taylor and the rest of the starters, including Carter Lindstrom, who scored 12 points, and Griffin Foster, who added 11 points.

Cam Dougherty scored 7 points for Naperville Central, which heads to next week's DeKalb Chuck Dayton Holiday Tournament.

"I know they don't have a great record, but by no means did we take this team lightly," said Hilltoppers coach Tim Hoder. "Our kids understood that this was a team that has talented players."
