Smith leads Lakes past Antioch

Sara Smith scored 13 points to lead three players in double figures for Lakes' girls basketball team, which pulled out a 54-45 win over host Antioch in Northern Lake County Conference action on Tuesday night.

Kyle Jozwik andf Brittany Washington each had 11 points for Lakes (4-7, 2-3). Smith also had 5 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 blocks and 2 assists. Taylor Lehman contributed 7 points, and Mia Edwards had 4 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.

"We did a good job hunting the paint all game," Eagles coach Brian Phelan said. "Very happy with our balanced scoring. Everyone contributed tonight. Good conference win to get back on track."

Antioch (1-9, 1-4) was led by Rachel Phillips' career-high 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6 steals. Coach Tim Borries said his Sequoits played one of their best games of the season. Faith Miller put in 8 points, and Piper Foote had 7 points and 3 assists for Antioch.

Grayslake Central 51, Round Lake 37: Rosie Drevline scored 14 points, Kate Bullman had 8 of her 13 points in the first quarter, and the visiting Rams remained undefeated in Northern Lake County Conference action.

Amanda Kocialkowski added 10 points for Grayslake Central (8-4, 5-0). Drevline and her sister, MK Drevline, each sank a pair of 3-pointers.

Round Lake (6-5, 3-2) was led by Emily Etherington's 13 points.

Wauconda 55, North Chicago 19: Allie Tylka had 21 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the host Bulldogs in the Northern Lake County Conferene game.

Wauconda (7-2, 3-2) also received 10 points from Ella Karf. Kiley Szmajda had 6 points and 8 rebounds, and Morgan Lung contributed 6 points and 4 assists.

"It was a nice team win tonight," Wauconda coach Jaime Dennis said. "With 20 assists, we passed the ball well. After giving up 16 offensive boards in the first half, we switched up our defense in the second and tightened up things in the paint."

Hersey 60, Vernon Hills 44: At Lake Zurich, the Cougars lost the Exam Jamm game despite Kayla Caudle's 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Daniella Jarrell has 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for Vernon Hills (7-4), which had its four-game winning streak snapped.

Simeon 65, Libertyville 54: At Lake Zurich, the Wildcats saw their five-game winning streak snapped in the Exam Jamm contest, despite Lydia Crow scoring 18 points on six 3-pointers.

Lauren Huber added 13 points, including three 3s, for Libertyville (8-3), and Maraget Buchert had 9 points.

"Simeon is a talented team, and we tried to match their talent and quickness," Libertyville coach Greg Pedersen said.
