Hersey prevails over Vernon Hills

Playing without standout sophomore Mary Kate Fahey, who had a wrist injury, the Hersey girls basketball team got 20 points and 4 assists from senior Emily Collins Tuesday night as the Huskies downed Vernon Hills 60-44 at Lake Zurich's Exam Jamm.

Sophomore Mary McGrath added 14 points for Hersey (6-5), while senior Maddie Jacobson scored 11.

Sophomore Aya El-Fiky contributed 9 rebounds to the win for the Huskies, whose coach Mary Fendley was going against the Cougars' Paul Brettner, both 1986 graduates of Rolling Meadows High School.

Wheaton Warrenville South 59, Barrington 40: Junior Taylor Thompson (12 points) and freshman Sydney Granby (10 points) led Barrington (2-8) at the Exam Jamm at Lake Zurich High School.

"I thought Taylor Thompson had a very solid game," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro. "She moved the ball very well and had some tough baskets. I also liked Sydney's play in the post. She finished well around the basket."

St. Viator 59, Rockford Lutheran 32: St. Viator (9-2) won its game at Exam Jamm as 10 different Lions scored. Joy Bergstrom (16 points), who was 5-of-5 from 3-point land, Emma Morrisey (14 points) and Elise Horbach (8 points, 5 rebounds) led the way.

Fremd 45, St. Charles North 31: Fremd (11-0) was led by Emily Klaczek (12 points), Ruthie Montella (10), Brianna Wooldrige (7) and Olivia Hill (6) at the Exam Jamm.
