Caudle hits 1,000 points as Vernon Hills wins again

Vernon Hills senior Kayla Caudle enjoyed a special night Friday.

Not only did the host Cougars beat Glenbrook North 61-55 in Central Suburban League North Division girls basketball action, but Caudle scored her 1,000th career point.

The DePaul-bound forward needed 3 points going into the game and scored two baskets in the early going to reach her milestone. Caudle finished with 14 points and 18 rebounds.

Piper Bedell had 22 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals for Vernon Hills (7-3, 3-0), which won its fourth game in a row. Daniella Jarrell added 11 points and 4 assist.

"We are very proud of Kayla," Vernon Hills coach Paul Brettner said. "She has worked hard in achieving this milestone."

Libertyville 62, Warren 38: Margaret Buchert scored 22 points, including three 3-pointers to match her season high, and the visiting Wildcats remained undefeated in the North Suburban Conference.

Libertyville (8-2, 5-0), which won its fifth game in a row, received 8 points apiece from Maddie Spaulding and Lauren Huber.

"We managed to pick up our energy and intensity in the second half," Wildcats coach Greg Pedersen said. "That was the difference in the game."

Warren (3-7, 2-2) was led by Breleigh Gula's 9 points. Dana Lundtveit and Macy Kocen each had 7 points for the Blue Devils.

Zion-Benton 52, Stevenson 45: Morgan Callahan scored 15 points, Ranya Jamison added 10, and the host Zee-Bees won in North Suburban Conference action.

Stevenson (6-3, 1-3), which dropped its third game in a row, received 15 points from Simone Sawyer. Avery King had 11 points, including two 3-pointera, for the Patriots.

Mundelein 60, Waukegan 56: The visiting Mustangs jumped out to a 20-8 lead after one quarter, but the host Bulldogs stayed in the North Suburban Conference game until the end.

Morgan Frank knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with 24 points for Mundelein (5-6, 1-3), while adding 6 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists. Kendall Klatt had 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals for the Mustangs, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Round Lake 51, Lakes 38: Diane Flade sank six 3-pointers, five in the second half, and finished with a game-high 20 points, as the visiting Panthers won the Northern Lake County Conference game.

Emily Etherington and Giselle Raygoza added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Round Lake (6-4, 3-1).

Kylie Jozwik had 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and 5 steals for Lakes (3-7, 1-3). Sara Smith made three 3-pointers and had 11 points for the Eagles.

Round Lake led 13-3 after one quarter and was up 23-12 at halftime.

"Round Lake started with great energy tonight," Lakes coach Brian Phelan said.
