Lake Park's Rogers garners MVP accolade

Darrione Rogers of Lake Park is this week's Daily Herald girls basketball MVP

Darrione Rogers, Lake Park: The 5-foot-11 junior, a DePaul recruit, poured in 49 points on 17-of-29 shooting, 7 of 13 from 3-point range, in a victory against Hinsdale South. She also grabbed 8 rebounds. Rogers followed up with 29 points and 16 rebounds in a victory against Batavia in the DuKane Conference opener.

Megan McClure, South Elgin: South Elgin ran its winning streak to four straight behind this 5-foot-9 junior guard who averaged 25.5 points per game in a pair of wins last week. McClure scored a career-high 33 points against Larkin with 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. She followed with 18 points in a win over St. Edward, adding 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots.

Piper Bedell, Vernon Hills: Looking to a snap a three-game losing streak, the Cougars went to their three-year varsity guard for some offense. The senior posted 18 points and 4 rebounds in a 46-30 victory over Maine East, then followed up by equaling her career high of 20 points and grabbing 5 rebounds to lead the Cougars to a 48-39 victory over Barrington.

Megan Murray, Elk Grove: Murray saved her season-best for the Grenadiers' Mid -Suburban League East opener as the 5-foot-5 junior guard scored half of her team's points (23) in a 46-43 win over Buffalo Grove. Murray's big game included three 3-pointers (equaling her season-high) and she went 2-for-2 at the free throw line.
