Mundelein stuns Lake Zurich; Grayslake Central's Bullman scores 24

Thin on varsity experience, Mundelein's girls basketball team started the season by losing three of its first four games in its own Thanksgiving tournament.

But the Mustangs beat Highland Park in their tourney finale and then earned a quality win Tuesday night, stunning host Lake Zurich 45-38 in the teams' North Suburban Conference opener.

Morgan Frank led Mundelein (3-3) with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 blocks and 4 steals. Kendall Klatt and Eva Thier added 10 and 9 points, respectively, for the Mustangs, who trailed 20-12 at halftime but then outscored Lake Zurich 21-10 in the third quarter to take a 33-30 lead into the fourth. Frank scored 9 points, including her lone 3-pointer, in the third.

Ella Gilbertson led Lake Zurich (4-2) with 14 points.

Grayslake Central 52, Grayslake North 32: Kate Bullman scored a career-high 24 points, as the visiting Rams defeated the Knights in the teams' Northern Lake County Conference opener Tuesday night.

The 6-foot-2 Bullman sank a pair of 3-pointers and went 6 of 6 from the foul line. MK Drevline added 8 points, including a 3, for Grayslake Central (4-3).

Grayslake North (0-6) was led by Savannah Guenther's 14 points.

The Rams led 13-5 after one quarter, 25-12 at halftime and 39-20 after three.

Lakes 60, North Chicago 22: The host Eagles bolted to a 21-2 lead after one quarter and were up 43-11 at halftime of the Northern Lake County Conference opener Tuesday night.

Mia Edwards had 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals for Lakes (2-4). Brittany Washington also scored 13 points and added 4 steals, and Ally Dietz contributed a season-high 10 points.

"Good conference win," Eagles coach Brian Phelan said. "Everyone contributed for the win. We started with great energy and fed off it all game."

Evanston 73, Vernon Hills 40: The visiting Cougars dropped the Central Suburban League crossover Tuesday night, extending their losing streak to three games.

Kayla Caudle led Vernon Hills (3-3) with 10 points.

"We just didn't show up ready to play and they jumped all over us in the first half," Cougars coach Paul Brettner said.
