Quality win for Stevenson at Palatine

Stevenson's boys basketball team earned a quality win Friday, defeating York 58-47 at the Ed Molitor Thanksgiving Classic at Palatine.

The Patriots (2-1) pulled away from the 2-1 Dukes in the game's last 2:30. Stevenson, which led 48-45, finished with a 10-2 win over foul-plagued York.

John Ittounas, who finished with 14 points, hit a 3-pointer to give the Patriots some breathing room and a 51-45 lead. Luke Chieng hit 4 free throws and finished with 12 points. Matt Kaznikov scored 10 of his 14 points in the second half.

York was led by Nick Kosich and Sam Walsh with 12 points each. Walsh fouled out with 1:10 left in the game.

"We made good passes, rebounded well, only had a few turnovers, and made our free throws (7-for-9 in the fourth quarter) when it mattered," said Stevenson coach Pat Ambrose. "That's a good equation.
