Hersey tops Barrington in Bison Classic
Hersey's girls basketball made 5 of 6 free throws in the final quarter when it outscored Barrington 13-4 to post a 51-41 triumph in its penultimate game of the Bison Classic at Buffalo Grove High School.
Senior Emily Collins (11 points) and sophomore Mary Kate Fahey (10 points, one 3-pointer) each made pair of free throws in the fourth quarter to help the Huskies (2-3) put the game away.
Senior Maddie Jacobson led Hersey with 14 points, including 6 field goals.
Game scoring honors went to Barrington junior Taylor Thompson, who tossed in 18 points.
Sophomore Michaela Goetze added 10 and freshman Laura Mahlum 7 for the Fillies (0-4).
Libertyville 43, Buffalo Grove 27: Senior Jackie Bickhaus led BG (3-1) in its own Bison Classic with 12 points including a pair of 3-pointers. Junior Macy Floro added 8 points and classmate Megan Fontanetta also tossed home a 3-pointer for BG, which faces Mother McAuley on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Lake Park 51, Hoffman Estates 39: Junior Berry Chukwuyem led the Hawks (2-2) on the fourth day of their own five-game round robin. Sophomore Ana Sturgis added 7 and junior Nora Thomas had 5. Freshman Ashley Oliver and Sturgis each had 3-pointers for the Hawks.
Hampshire 50, Wheeling 41: Senior Nosa Igiehon (17 points) and junior Morgan Collar (11 points) were top scorers for Wheeling, which stands at 2-2 heading into Saturday's final day of play in the Hoffman Estates tournament.
Wheaton-Warrenville South 49, Schaumburg 31: Senior center Vicky Aquirre led the Saxons (1-4) with 12 points and 6 rebounds on the final day of their own tournament. Teammates Savannah Williams, a sophomore, added 5 points and 4 rebounds while senior Ariana Doroskin had 5 rebounds and 2 assists.
