Washington's career high 21 help Lakes to first win

Senior Brittany Washington scored a career-high 21 points and added 3 steals Wednesday as Lakes' girls basketball team defeated Johnsburg 59-52 at the Lake Zurich Turkey Thriller.

"I thought we ran the floor well today," said Lakes coach Brian Phelan, whose team won its first game of the season after four losses. "It was another close game against a quality opponent. We will keep grinding as we are excited to start conference play next week."

Mia Edwards added 14 points and 7 rebounds for the Eagles while Sara Smith had 5 points and 6 assists.

Edwards and Smith were both named to the all-tournament team.
