Warren holds off Mundelein

The Mundelein crowd was pretty much taken out of the game by halftime, as Warren held a 35-17 cushion in the third round of the Mustangs Thanksgiving tournament on Wednesday night.

That was until sophomore Scottie Ebube's one-handed slam recharged the Mustangs and their faithful, cutting the deficit to 51-49 with 3:12 left in regulation.

"They always play 100 percent, and there's no giving up in them," Warren coach Jon Jasnoch said.

There was no quit in Warren either. The Blue Devils weathered the storm to pull out a thrilling 60-58 victory.

The win moves Warren to 2-1 in the tourney, while Mundelein slipped to 0-2.

Ebube's slam capped a 7-0 run that included a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Conor Enright (14 points). Ebube finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

"I think some of our inexperience showed in the second half when (Mundelein) really picked up the pace," Jasnoch said. "We have to learn to play with the lead."

Warren scored the first hoop of the game and never trailed. The Blue Devils built their lead to as many as 20 points (39-19) after a jumper by junior forward Adnan Sarancic with 6:10 left in the third.

A 13-0 run late in the first quarter and extending to the 6:18 mark of the second helped Warren build a 25-9 lead. Sarancic led the Blue Devils with 20 points.

Sarancic was a monster in the first half when Warren got the inside game going, scoring 9 points to help stake the Blue Devils to a 19-9 advantage. Warren junior forward Sawyer Shrake popped in 14 points, while senior guard Alex Manoiu added 11.
