Stevenson wins Willowbrook title; Lakes falls to Johnsburg
Avery King scored a game-high 15 points, Lydia Lueck added 13, and Stevenson's girls basketball team defeated East Aurora 46-37 to win the Willowbrook Thanksgiving tournament Wednesday night.
Nikki Ware had 8 points for the Patriots, who went 5-0 in their first appearance in the tourney. Stevenson trailed 23-20 at halftime, but outscored East Aurora 11-4 in the third quarter and 15-10 in the fourth.
The Patriots play Warren next Tuesday to open up North Suburban Conference play.
Johnsburg 59, Lakes 52: At Lake Zurich, the Eagles lost their Turkey Thriller finale, despite senior Brittany Washington's career-high 21 points and 3 steals.
"I thought we ran the floor well today," coach Brian Phelan said after his Eagles fell to 1-3. "It was another close game against a quality opponent. We will keep grinding as we are excited to start conference play next week."
Mia Edwards added 14 points and 7 rebounds for Lakes, while Sara Smith had 5 points and 6 assists.
Edwards and Smith were both named to the all-tournament team.
