Lakes, Wauconda fall

Crystal Lake South 53, Lakes 49: At Richmond-Burton, the Eagles fell just short for the second night in a row, as Gators junior guard Tyler Miller scored a game-high 21 points, including four 3-pointers.

Lakes, which lost its season opener in overtime to Richmond-Burton on Monday night, led 25-19 at halftime, before getting outscored 21-10 in the third quarter. Lakes junior Garrett Klein hit a 3-pointer to the score at 49-49 with 1:50 left in the fourth. But senior forward Matt Reall hit a 17-footer with 1:11 to go to give the lead back to Crystal Lake South and then sealed the win with 2 free throws with 11.8 seconds left.

Reall scored 9 of his 14 points in the fourth.

Lakes (0-2) was led by senior guard Brad Cherry with 13 and senior guard Matt Ott with 11, including three 3-pointers. Klein sank 5 of 5 free throws coming off the bench and finished with 10 points.

Lakes plays Lake Zurich at 11 a.m. Friday. Crystal Lake South takes on Richmond-Burton at 12:30 p.m.

Huntley 69, Wauconda 58: At Johnsburg, Huntley outscored Wauconda 17-5 in the second quarter to take control.

Donovan Carter had 15 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals to lead Wauconda while teammate Jake Shanholtzer added 12 points.

Wauconda is now 1-1 on the season.
