Tylka, Szmajda lead Wauconda to own Turkey title

Allie Tylka scored 21 points, Kiley Szmajda had her second double-double of the season, and Wauconda's girls basketball team defeated Richmond-Burton 58-45 to win its own Turkey tournament Monday night.

Tylka also had 9 rebounds and 7 steals, while Szmadja posted 17 points, 11 rebounds and 7 blocks. Maddie Carver dished out 8 assists, and Jessie Pakaski grabbed 10 rebounds. The score was tied 27-27 at halftime, and then the Bulldogs outscored the Rockets 15-6 in the third quarter.

"It was a rough game," Wauconda coach Jaime Dennis said. "I don't think we came in ready to play and couldn't match the intensity of Richmond-Burton. We finally pulled it together in the third to put some distance between us and Richmond. It was another team effort to get the job done."
