Vernon Hills defeats Antioch

Vernon Hills 43, Antioch 10: At Vernon Hills, the Cougars improved to 3-0 in their own tournament, as three players scored in double figures.

Vernon Hills was led by Piper Bedell (12 points, 5 rebounds), Daniella Jarrell (12 points, 7 rebounds) and Kayla Caudle (11 points, 5 rebounds).

Antioch (0-3), which scored just 1 point in the first half, got a 3-pointer from Gianna Rigforgiato.

The tournament resumes Monday with Vernon Hills playing Lake Forest at 4:30 p.m. Antioch will take on Lake Forest Academy at 7:30 p.m.

Fremd 56, Lakes 34: At Lakes, as part of Lake Zurich's Turkey Thriller, the Vikings jumped out a 13-5 lead after one quarter and were up 30-15 at halftime.

Lakes (1-2) was led by Sara Smith (12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals) and Mia Edwards (11 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks).

"Credit Fremd," Eagles coach Brian Phelan said. "They are a good team and they played well. We played hard all game, but our shots did not fall today. It's early in the season so we will keep grinding, getting ready for conference play."

Lakes resumes the tournament Tuesday with an 8 p.m. tipoff at Lake Zurich against the host Bears.

Mundelein 57, Highland Park 55: Mundelein got off to a quick start against Highland Park and had a 10-point lead at halftime in its own Thanksgiving tournament.

But the Mustangs were outscored by 8 points over the second half and had to hold on for a close-shave victory over the Giants.

Mundelein got huge games out of two players: Morgan Frank and Kendall Klatt.

Frank poured in a game-high 24 points on four 3-pointers and an 8-of-10 performance from the free throw line.

Klatt added 22 points.

Mundelein is now 2-3 on the season.

Warren 37, Taft 34: In the New Trier tournament, Warren outlasted Taft thanks to a big game by Macy Kocen.

Kocen finished with 18 points on five 3-pointers.

Breleigh Gula added 7 points for the Blue Devils while Jataia Harris and Dana Lundtveidt each finished with 6 points.

Warren is now 1-1 on the season.
