Basketball: Lake Zurich announces hiring of Coughlin

Lake Zurich has announced the hiring of Terry Coughlin, pending school board approval later this month, as its boys basketball coach.

Coughlin follows Billy Pitcher, who will be Lake Park's coach next season.

A 2002 graduate of New Trier High School, Coughlin had been a PE teacher and assistant boys basketball and boys volleyball coach at New Trier in recent years. He joined the basketball coaching staff in 2007 and added volleyball to his responsibilities in 2014.

"We are incredibly thrilled to welcome Terence Coughlin, his wife Melissa and their children, Caleb and Kaiden, to the Lake Zurich High School athletic family," Lake Zurich athletic director Dr. Andrew Lambert said in a statement. "Our goal was not only to find the best basketball coach but also a person who would uphold the values of District 95. Throughout our exhaustive search process, coach Coughlin's name came up continuously as a rising star in the coaching profession."

Coughlin attended college at Augustana and at Northeastern University in Chicago.

"Whether it is in the classroom, the community or on the field, Terry has truly been successful at every step of his journey," Lambert said. "He is the perfect fit to deliver a world-class experience academically, socially and athletically to our students, and lead our baseball program into the future."
