Perfect MSL East finish for Prospect

Prospect's boys basketball team completed an unbeaten run through the Mid-Suburban East with a 50-33 victory over visiting Wheeling on Friday.

In the process, Knights senior guard David Swedura drew much closer to a big scoring milestone.

Swedura scored a team-best 17 points, leaving him just 9 short of the 1,000-point mark in career scoring.

His next chance will be Wednesday at Barrington, where the Knights will battle the Broncos for the MSL title.

Jalen McLachlan was back in the lineup and scored 12 points for Prospect (20-5, 10-0), which strugged through a 1-for-11 shooting effort from 3-point range but still managed to finish 18-for-35 from the field.

Swedura also contributed 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists and a block.

Wheeling (7-18, 2-8) got a big game from Michael Best, who drained five 3s and finished with a game-high 21 points.

St. Viator 58, Carmel 40: The visiting Lions improved to 22-5 overall and 9-0 in the East Suburban Catholic. St. Viator hosts Nazareth on Wednesday in their final ESCC contest with an opportunity to clinch an unbeaten run in league play.

Buffalo Grove 69, Elk Grove 54: The Bison wrapped up a third-place finish in the MSL East by winning at Elk Grove. Buffalo Grove improved to 15-9 overall and 6-4 in the East.
