Hoffman hurries past Fenton; Thompson get 35 for Barrington

Hoffman Estates' girls basketball team stayed alive in the Class 4A postseason by topping Fenton 66-63 on Monday in a regional play-in game at Wheaton Warrenville South.

"Their run-and-gun style was definitely something we hadn't seen before and took some getting used to," said Hawks coach Mike Koester. "But we had big games out of Nora Thomas and Alysa Dupart."

Dupart and Thomas finished with 18 points against the 18th-seeded Bison.

Next up for the 14th-seeded Hawks (11-18) in the Lake Park sectional is No. 2 Wheaton Warrenville South at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Junior forward Raven Wilson finished with 12 points and Tayler Williams contributed 10 for the Hawks.

"Tayler worked really hard taking care of the basketball and getting it where it needed to go," Koester added. "Without her composure, I'm not sure if we win this game."

Amari Benbow paced Fenton with 11 points.

Barrington 70, Waukegan 49: Fillies' sophomore Taylor Thompson scored a career-best 35 points as Barrington rolled to a Class 4A quarterfinal win at Zion-Benton.

Thompson joins three other Fillies as the school's single-game leader for points. Ashley Berggren, Lindsay Richards and Erica Berggren also have scored 35 points in one game for Barrington.

"Taylor played a great game," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro. "She did a nice job around the basket and rebounded very well. She was so focused on doing all the little things right, and she did."

Tori Meyer added 12 points for the Fillies.

"She (Meyer) also had a ton of steals for us," Barreiro said. "And I thought Rachel Mori did a nice job of running things from the point."

The No. 12-seeded Fillies (10-16) advance to a 7:30 p.m. Tuesday game against No. 5 Grayslake Central (21-7) at Zion-Benton. The Fillies defeated Grayslake Central 34-29 at the Bison Classic at Buffalo Grove in November.
