Stevenson grabs NSC lead

Stevenson struggled with its shooting but found the range often enough to earn a 39-30 victory over visiting Zion-Benton in North Suburban Conference boys basketball Tuesday.

And as a result, the Patriots are alone atop the league standings after having won their sixth straight.

Jackson Qualley paced Stevenson (14-6, 8-2) with 12 points to go with 7 rebounds, 3 assists a steal and a block.

Matthew Ambrose (10 points, 3 rebounds), Samvit Ram (8 points, 9 rebounds) and Nick Bonk (7 points, 12 rebounds) were the other big contributors for the Pats.

Top producers for Zion-Benton (8-13, 2-8) were Amar Aguillard (11 points), Anthony French (8 points, 3 assists) and Quentin Williams (2 points, 8 rebounds).

Next up for Stevenson is a 7 p.m. Friday matchup against visiting Libertyville, which is second place in the NSC race, 1 game back of the Patriots.

Warren 51, Lake Zurich 44: Two streaks ended in this game.

Warren broke a three-game losing streak with the win while Lake Zurich had an 8-game winning streak snapped.

Warren (14-11, 6-4 North Suburban Conference) got 22 points from Branden Ellis and 14 points from Barak Diehl.

Ryan Kutsor of Lake Zurich had a game-high 23 points while teammate Will Tucker added 10 points.

Lake Zurich falls to 19-6 overall and 6-4 in the NSC.

Grayslake North 52, Wauconda 51: Grayslake North was out-scored 17-10 in the fourth quarter but managed to hang on for the win against the visiting Bulldogs.

The victory moves Grayslake North to 9-13 overall and 5-5 in the Northern Lake County Conference. Wauconda drops to 8-16 and 5-6 NLCC.

Brothers Ryan and James Connolly topped Grayslake North with 16 and 13 points respectively. Teammate Jon Smithson added 11 points.

For Wauconda, Connor Brannick scored a game-high 18 points while Donovan Carter added 11 points.

Antioch 77, Round Lake 38: The visiting Sequoits had three players score in double figures to snap a four-game losing streak and pick up a Northern Lake County Conference triumph.

Andrew Hare made a pair of 3s and finished with game-high 16 points. Dan Fillipone also had two 3s and scored 13 points, and Braden Gallimore had 10.

Austin Andrews made three 3s and finished with 9 points for Antioch (9-13, 3-8).

Round Lake slipped to 0-22 and 0-11.

Lakes 41, Grayslake Central 35: The Eagles prevailed in Northern Lake County Conference play for their fifth win in their last seven games.

Lakes (10-15, 6-5) avenged an earlier loss to the Rams and led the whole way. Leading the way in scoring for Lakes were Brad Cherry (16 points) and Logan McCann (15).

Grayslake Central (9-12, 6-5) was led by Jack Spalding with 19 points.
