Marcotte, Bikus helps Mundelein snap skid

Tommy Marcotte scored 20 points, Jeff Bikus added 18, and Mundelein's boys basketball team defeated visiting Zion-Benton 73-49 Saturday night to snap a five-game losing streak.

Conor Enright had a double-double of 12 points and 10 assists, as the Mustangs improved to 13-12 and 3-6 in the North Suburban Conference. Mundelein also got 17 points from James Willman, while Andrew Silva scored 8 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Zion-Benton fell to 2-7 in the NSC with its second loss this season to Mundelein.

Carmel 61, Douglass Academy 47: Evan Myers scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and Johnny Roeser added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals, as the host Corsairs won their nonconference matinee.

Less than 24 hours after his team lost on Senior Night to Marian Catholic in East Suburban Catholic Conference play, Carmel coach Zack Ryan started his four seniors: Zion Kilpatrick, Matt Brolley, Trey Resetich and Brandon Evans along with the junior Roeser.

Evans hit a pair of shots in the opening quarter and drained a 3-pointer in the second quarter, finishing with 7 points.

Ryan sat usual starters Myers, Kimahri Wilson and DaMone Williams-Gray the entire first quarter.

Carmel (16-8) took the lead for good early in the second quarter, but the Tigers stayed close throughout behind the play of 6-foot-4 senior Tyshaun Bryant, who had a game-high 20 points (two 3-pointers) and 8 rebounds.

Douglass was within 52-45 after 2 free throws by Daveon Williams (9 points, 8 rebounds) with 2:28 left in the fourth quarter. Carmel closed the game with a 9-2 run, scoring all of its points at the foul line. Wilson (10 points) and Myers each made 4 of 4 free throws down the stretch, and Kilpatrick split a pair.

Williams-Gray finished with 7 points. Kilpatrick scored 4 points and took a pair of charges.
