Victory nets share of NSC title for Warren

Jordyn Hughes scored 22 points, and Warren's girls basketball team defeated visiting Mundelein 53-23 Friday night to clinch a share of its first North Suburban Conference championship since 2008.

Kaylen Dickson added 9 points for the Blue Devils, who celebrated Senior Night. Warren (20-6, 11-2) can wrap up the conference title outright with a win at Waukegan next Wednesday. Lake Zurich and Stevenson are both 1 game back and play each other that same night at Lake Zurich.

Mundelein (9-18, 4-9) received 6 points apiece from Kelsy Austwick and Kendall Klatt.

Stevenson 47, Libertyville 33: The Patriots stayed within 1 game of North Suburban Conference leader Warren with a victory at home.

Stevenson (15-11, 10-3) got a big game from Isabella Paldrmic, who finished with a game-high 20 points. Avery King had 12 and Klaire Steffens had 11.

The Patriots conclude NSC play with a matchup against Lake Zurich next Wednesday.

Lydia Crow finished with a team-best 18 points, which included four 3s, for Libertyville (13-13, 6-7).

Vernon Hills 52, Highland Park 37: Piper Bedell had 19 points and 4 steals, and Daniella Jarrell had a double-double of 10 rebounds and 10 assists to go with 7 points, as the host Cougars won in Central Suburban League North Division action.

Nicole Pieper scored 10 points for Vernon Hills (16-9, 8-1), which honored seniors Pieper, Tatiana Guletsky and Rachel D'Argo.

The Cougars went on a 9-0 run to end the first quarter up 13-5. Vernon Hills added 2 more points its cushion by halftime and led by 16 after three quarters.

"They have two dynamic scorers and we are very happy with the defense we played," Vernon Hills coach Paul Brettner said of the Giants.
