St. Edward wins share of Metro Red
The St. Edward girls basketball team defeated Walther Christian on the road Thursday to win a share of the Metro Suburban Red Conference.
St. Edward (18-7, 11-1) tied Walther (23-2, 11-1) for the conference championship. Both teams only lost to the other; Walther's win had come just last Thursday at St. Edward, 56-40.
St. Edward reversed that outcome thanks to 26 points including six 3-pointers from Mariel Franco, 19 points by Yssa Sto. Domingo and 14 points from Madison Knott. Those three combined for 13 made 3-point baskets and all by 7 of St. Edward's points.
Westminster Christian 34, Schaumburg Christian 26: The Warriors (9-12) won their fourth consecutive game heading into regional play behind Keely Frens with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Elise VanNoord scored 12 points and Mica Glanzer grabbed 11 rebounds.
South Elgin 41, East Aurora 35: The Storm outscored the Tomcats 13-6 in the fourth quarter for the comeback win. Casey Brennan and Megan McClure scored 10 points for South Elgin.
