Big names highlight Lake County High School Sports Hall of Fame induction

The 2018 Class of the Lake County High School Sports Hall of Fame will be inducted at halftime of the College of Lake County men's basketball game on Thursday in Grayslake.

A reception will be held in the gym at 6 p.m. The women's game is slated for a 5:15 p.m. tipoff with the men's game to follow. Admission is free.

In addition to the induction, the three recipients of the annual Keith Ryan scholarships will be announced and will receive their awards.

The new inductees are:

• Todd Parola (Grayslake, Mundelein)

Three-sport athlete all four years at Grayslake High School (Class of 1984), playing golf, basketball and baseball ... all-conference in each sport ... member of Grayslake hall of fame ... three-year baseball letterman at Indiana University (1987-1989) ... team captain his senior season ... IU scholar athlete of the year and All-Big 10 academic as senior ... closed out 23-season run as head varsity baseball coach at Mundelein High School in 2017 ... won 603 games, including seven seasons with over 30 wins, 12 regional and 4 sectional championships ... 2016 Mustangs finished second in state in Class 4A ... four-time IHSA baseball coach of the year. ... as head varsity boys golf coach at MHS, teams have won four conference titles, two regional championships and one sectional crown in 2016. ... Todd and his wife, Pam, live in Mundelein and have three children: Paige, Derek and Brett.

• Ted DeRousse (Antioch)

Began wrestling program at Antioch Community High School in 1960, developing it into one of the top programs in Lake County ... coached state freestyle teams representing Illinois at national meet and moved on to work at USA Wrestling in Colorado Springs, Colo., following retirement from high school coaching and teaching ... During tenure at Antioch, Sequoits registered more than 300 dual-meet victories, ranking in top 10 in IHSA history at his retirement. ... Teams won seven conference and two district championships, one regional championship, one sectional title ... seventh in 1982 state finals ... coached 11 state medalists ... member of the Illinois Wrestling Coaches & Officials and the National Wrestling halls of fame ... as football coordinator, Sequoits won three conference championships, earned one state quarterfinal berth and two semifinal trips. ... Ted and his wife, Kay, have four children: Brett, Tad, David and Laura (Mawyer); seven grandchildren: Alaina, Ella, Jack, Owen, Hannah, Emily and Will; and great grandson Landon.

• Mark Schartner (Stevenson)

Has led Stevenson High School boys soccer program for 31 years and guided girls program for 19 seasons. ... counts 635 wins, including 409 on boys side, along with 16 regional and three sectional championships. ... 2012 boys team finished fourth in state ... 409-195-96 record with boys, 225-108-54 record with girls ... ranks eighth all-time in IHSA history for boys victories ... this fall will become 57th member of the IHSSCA hall of hame and first such inductee from Stevenson. ... in 2014, alongside coaching colleague Shannon Mauro and athletic director Trish Betthauser, created Stevenson's Allied Soccer program, which provides athletic experiences for students with disabilities.

• Sarah Boothe (Warren)

Four-year varsity basketball career at Warren Township High School (Class of 2008), helping Blue Devils go 113-16, including 55-1 in North Suburban Conference ... two-time all-state, two-time all-state honorable mention, four-time all-North Suburban Conference, two-time academic all-NSC, three-time captain of Daily Herald Lake County All-Area team ... senior year named Illinois Ms. Basketball, Illinois Gatorade player of the year, Parade Magazine High School All-American ... 2,038 career points rank second in Warren history, behind only fellow Lake County Class of 2018 HOF inductee Crystal Cobb ... member of USA Women's U18 National Team that earned gold medal in Argentina in July, 2008 ... played three seasons for Stanford University, where she earned academic All-PAC 10 honors junior year ... currently playing professional basketball overseas.

• Brandon Paul (Warren)

Scored 1,183 points in three-year varsity career at Warren Township High School (Class of 2009), making 109 3-pointers ... averaged 21 ppg his final two seasons. ... two-time all conference and two-time all-state recipient ... named Illinois Mr. Basketball senior year ... played four seasons at University of Illinois, playing in 138 games (98 starts) ... two-time All-Big Ten team ... scored 43 points, including eight 3-pointers, vs. Ohio State his junior year. ... after graduation, played four years overseas. ... on July 14, 2017, signed with San Antonio Spurs and made NBA debut on Oct. 30. ... averaging 9.9 minutes and 2.5 ppg (47 games) for Spurs this season.

• Crystal Cobb (Warren)

Versatile scoring guard is all-time leading basketball scorer for Warren Township High School with 2,048 points ... led Blue Devils to first Elite Eight appearance downstate. ... second most free throws attempted and made, most 3-pointers made in one season and career, steals for a season and career ... four-time all-conference, three-time all-Lake County, all-state senior year. ... played four years at Arizona State University, finishing as one of top three-point shooters in school history ... Crystal and her husband, Michael, reside in the Phoenix area and have three children: Anthony, Madison and Ashley.

• Darnell Jones (Northern Officials Association)

Began sports career at Overbrook High School in Philadelphia (Class of 1977) ... past basketball president for Northern Officials Association and NOA's current webmaster and social media coordinator. ... NOA official of the year in 2009 ... IHSA basketball referee for both girls and boys ... has worked girls state finals three times ... also officiates junior college men's basketball and Special Olympics basketball ... has served as a Gurnee Park District youth basketball coach and Antioch Viking youth football coach ... retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service ... retired from Abbott Laboratories after 20-year career in IT department ... Darnell and his wife of 36 years, Patricia, live in Lindenhurst and have three children: Kira, Keenan and Kendall; and one granddaughter, Samara.
