New Trier gets past Conant

Conant's girls basketball team, which moved into a first-place tie in the Mid-Suburban West on Friday night, came back less than 24 hours later to face visiting New Trier on Saturday.

The Trevians (18-5) broke on top 12-4 after one quarter in Hoffman Estates and went on to post a 53-37 triumph in a nonconference game that featured the mentor against her student.

Conant coach Deidre Naughton starred for Trevians coach Teri Rodgers at New Trier before heading to play for Doug Bruno at DePaul.

Offensive leaders for Naughton's Cougars (7-13) were Stephanie Mazurek (9 points) and Ania Baker (6 points).

Teammates Cate Fitzgerald, Amanda Klingsporn and Lauren Murphy each chipped in 5 points. Taylor Cyr, Murphy and Fitzgerald each had a 3-pointer.

Leyden 54, Willowbrook 52: Pam Colmenares hits 2 free throws with 7 seconds left to lift the Eagles (8-10) to the West Suburban Gold triumph. Amalia Figueroa led Leyden with 18 points while Jasmine Igartua had 17.
