Prospect protects East lead; BG's seniors roll

Prospect's boys basketball team used a stingy first-half defensive effort to come away with a 55-36 victory over host Wheeling on Friday in Mid-Suburban East play.

The outcome leaves the Knights with a 2-game lead in the division.

Jon Kreidler led the way for Prospect (12-4, 5-0) with 17 points, and David Swedura contributed 10.

The Knights held Wheeling (5-12, 1-4) to 7 points in each of the first two quarters.

DJ Godlewski hit a pair of 3s and led the Wildcats with 8 points.

Buffalo Grove 76, Elk Grove 40: On senior night at Buffalo Grove, the Bison used a group effort to get an MSL East victory.

Senior Jack Vaselaney led the way with 20 points, and junior Tom Trieb had 12.

Buffalo Grove seniors are Brendan Reid (9 points), Mac Camardo (7), Caleb Mayhorn (6), Zack Sheasby (3), Tim Antonetti (3), Tyler Rieger (2) and Kyle Adams and Zach Fricke.

The Bison won their fourth straight, improving to 11-7 overall and 3-2 in the MSL East.

Elk Grove (1-16, 0-5) was led by Dylan Ingebrigtsen with 14 points.

Maine West 64, Glenbrook North 57: The visiting Warriors (10-5 overall) stretched their winning streak to 4 games and improved to 4-1 in the Central Suburban North race with a victory on the road.

Hinsdale South 59, Leyden 53: The visiting Eagles saw their win streak snapped at three games as Zion Griffin scored a game-best 28 points for the Hornest in West Suburban Gold play.

Ocean Johnson and Kyler Britten both finished with 14 points for Leyden (8-7, 1-3); Johnson drained four 3s.

Christian Life 68, Christian Liberty 54: Senior forward Steve Ringstrand led all scorers with 24 points, including a pair of 3s, but the host Chargers up short in Northeastern Athletic Conference play.
