Barrington junior guard Jason Boock has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for his recent performance in high school boys basketball games.
Jason Boock, Barrington: This junior guard is starting to make a habit of big scoring nights. Following up on a career-best 35-point performance at Jacobs in holiday tournament play, Boock had a game-high 33 points with six 3s as the host Broncos picked up a key 63-54 victory over Conant on Friday in Mid-Suburban West action.
Zion Griffin, Hinsdale South: Griffin scored a varsity-high 34 points as Hinsdale South beat rival Downers Grove South 57-43 in their West Suburban Gold showdown. The 6-foot-5 senior forward, committed to Iowa State, knocked down 15 of 21 shots, including a 3-pointer. He also grabbed 8 rebounds.
Jayden Johnson, Batavia: This 6-foot-5 guard played a major part in Batavia wins on back-to-back nights. The sophomore tied for team honors with 17 points in a 56-53 win over St. Charles East, highlighted by his long, game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer. The following night in a 78-55 win at Plainfield South he scored a game-best 20 points, including five 3-pointers, as Batavia improved to 13-3.
Ryan Kutsor, Lake Zurich: Coming off all-tournament honors at Pekin for the second year in a row, the 6-foot-4 senior guard stayed hot in the Bears' first game of the new year. He scored 20 points (one off his season high) and grabbed 10 rebounds, as the Bears captured a 53-43 win over host Lake Forest to improve to 10-4.
