Solimene, St. Viator edge Wheeling for Blenner title

St. Viator's girls basketball team topped Wheeling 41-35 on Friday in the championship game of the Blenner Holiday Classic hosted by the Lions.

Senior Olivia Solimene paced St. Viator with 14 points to go with 4 rebounds and a steal. Senior Haley Robinson added 8 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals, and the Lions (10-5) also got big contributions from senior Myia Clark (6 rebounds, 5 points) and senior Michaela Mueller (3 steals, 5 points).

Leading the way for Wheeling (10-6) was sophomore Morgan Collar with 15 points and 7 rebounds and junior Nosa Igiehon with 13 and 11.

Solimene was named tournament MVP, and Clark also earned a spot on the all-tournament team for St. Viator. Wheeling's representatives were Collar and Igiehon.

Prospect 73, Resurrection 55: Playing her final game in the Komaromy Classic at Dundee-Crown High School, Prospect veteran and all-tourney selection Emily Frasco left quite a lasting impression.

The Alabama-Birmingham recruit fired home a season-high 27 points with seven 3-pointers, 9 rebounds and 5 assists as the Knights (9-5) closed out the 16-team tourney with a 73-55 triumph to take 11th place.

Also enjoying a big offensive game was Knights junior Ashley Adams, who connected for 21 points with 5-of-7 free throws, 7 rebounds and 2 assists.

Sara Biesterfeldt chipped in 7 points and 7 rebounds while Margherite Pettenuzzo collected 7 points, 3 steals, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Stephanie Kowalczyk had 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

Barrington 47, Buffalo Grove 41: Sophomore Taylor Thompson (15 points, 13 rebounds) and junior Tori Meyer (15 points, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 rebounds) led the Fillies (5-11) in their final game at Dundee-Crown.

Shanna Turczynski chipped in 4 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals while Tess Conforti graved 7 rebounds.

Alex Kelly chipped in 6 points and 2 rebounds and Kaitlyn Heinke tossed home a 3-pointer.

Buffalo Grove (1-15) was led by Macy Floro (13 points), Jackie Bickhaus (9 points, 4 assists), Kendra Lee (9 points, 10 rebounds) and Alyssa Ramos (6 rebounds).

Palatine 44, Waubonsie Valley 34: The Pirates' win in consolation play on the final day of the 34th annual Bill Neibch Wheaton North Falcon Classic gave them a 2-2 record in the 16-team event and 11-4 overall.

Sydney Rzepka (14 points), Kendra Lindell (13) and Anja Jacobsen (8) led the Pirates.

Hinsdale Central 50, Elk Grove 41: The Grenadiers (2-2 in the tourney) fell in the consolation championship at the Falcon Classic at Wheaton North and will head into 2018 with a 9-9 record.

Marian Catholic 39, Hersey 37: Hersey was led by senior Claire Rogowski's 15 points (including three 3-pointers) in the consolation game of the 16-team Montini tournament, where the Huskies are 1-2 heading into Saturday's final day of action.

Sophomore Emily Collins and senior Katie McGrath each chipped in 6 points for the Huskies (8-8).

Conant 52, Streamwood 42: Conant's second win in the Libertyville tournament gave the Cougars a 2-2 record in the eight-team event.

Leading the Cougars (5-11) in the final day of action were senior guard Cate Fitzgerald (12 points, two 3-pointers), junior guard Hannah Shulman (10 points, one 3-pointer) and junior guard Stephanie Mazurek (9 points) and Abbey DiSalvo (8 points). Senior Taylor Cyr had 5 points with a 3-pointer and senior guard Lauren Murphy was 4-of-4 from the free throw line.

St. Charles East 55, Schaumburg 45: Junior Ariana Dorskin scored a career-high 19 points with 3 assists and 2 rebounds as the Saxons (2-14) concluded play at the Falcon Classic at Wheaton North.

Classmate Vicky Aguirre added 12 points with 7 rebounds while senior Kayla Patterson chipped in 7 points with 2 assists. Senior Kendall Fredrickson pulled down 7 rebounds and handed out 3 assists.

Plainfield North 48, Leyden 45: Leyden took fourth place in the Blenner Classic at St. Viator as the Eagles Pamela Colmenares was named to the all-tourney team.
