Griefenstein leads Meadows into Libertyville title match

With a 1-game lead in the Mid-Suburban East, Rolling Meadows' girls basketball team has a chance for a division championship.

On Thursday, the Mustangs also gave themselves a chance for a Christmas tournament championship.

With a 57-47 win over Cary-Grove, Rolling Meadows will play Vernon Hills for the title of the Libertyville Tournament at 2 p.m. Friday.

Leading the Mustangs to their second win in three days was junior Lily Griefenstein, who tossed home a career-high 23 points with three 3-pointers.

Sophomore Bridget Rolla chipped in 11 points and junior Alexis Davis added 10 for the Mustangs, who raised their overall record to 11-6.

Niles West 55, Conant 54: Despite connecting for nine 3-pointers, the Cougars (4-11, 1-2 in the tourney) dropped their second 1-point game in the Libertyville.

Leading the three-point barrage was Cate Fitzgerald, who fired home 4 to finish with a team-high 15 points. Hannah Shulman (8 points) had a pair of 3-pointers while Taylor Cyr, Lauren Murphy and Stephanie Mazurek (12 points) each had one. Ania Baker chipped in 6 points.

Conant will play in the seventh-place game today at 9 a.m. against Streamwood.

Saint Viator 33, Plainfield North 26: Senior guards Myia Clark (16 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists), Olivia Solimene (8 points, 2 assists, 2 steals) led St. Viator (10-6) which will play Wheeling (10-5) for its own Blenner Classic championship today at 7 p.m.

Wheeling 36, Zion Benton 13: Nosa Igiehon (8 points), Nansy Velev 8) and Morgan Collar (7) led the Wildcats (10-5) into Friday's championship of the St. Viator Blenner Classic.

Leyden 55, Maine East 43: Amalia Figueroa led Leyden with 16 points while Jasmine Iguarta and Pamela Colmenares each added 10 points in St. Viator's Benner Classic.

The Eagles will face Plainfield North today at 5:30 p.m.

Proviso East 63, Hersey 57: Hersey senior Erin McGrath scored a game-high 21 points while teammates Emily Collins (14 points) and Mary Kate Fahey (10 points) also reached double figures in the quarterfinal match of the Montini tourney.

Maesyn Benjamin, McGrath and Claire Rogowski each had a 3-pointer for the Huskies (8-7).

Hersey will face Marian Catholic at 4:45 p.m. Friday. Marian Catholic fell to Geneva 55-26 on Thursday.

Bartlett 60, Palatine 54: Sydney Rzepka (17 points), Kendra Lindell (14 points) and Tiana Henderson (9) led the Pirates in the consolation game of the Falcon Classic at Wheaton North. Anja Jacobsen and Sarah Jasonowicz each chipped in 6 points for the Pirates (10-4).

Elk Grove 49, Schaumburg 30: Megan Murray fired home a career-high 21 points with four 3s to lead Elk Grove at the consolation game of the Falcon Classic at Wheaton North. Murray also had 3 assists.

Zoe Blomquist added 8 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assist and a pair of 3-pointers for the Grens (9-8), and Isabella Tierney had 6 points.

Schaumburg (2-13) was led by Kayla Patterson (10 points), Talia Torosian (7 points) and Kendall Fredrickson (7 rebounds).

Hampshire 49, Prospect 40: Hampshire outscored the Knights 16-8 in the third quarter en route to winning the consolation bracket game in the Komaromy Classic at Dundee-Crown.

Emily Frasco led Prospect (9-4) with 22 points (two 3-pointers) while Ashley Adams contributed 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Other rebounding leaders were Stephanie Kowalczyk (5) and Helen Siaveles (3) while Margherite Pettenuzzo had 5 points, 2 assists and 1 rebound.

Prospect will face Resurrection Friday at 12:30 p.m.

South Elgin 47 Barrington 44: Sophomore Taylor Thompson's 28 points and 8 rebounds led the Fillies (4-11) in the consolation bracket game at Dundee-Crown.

Shanna Turczynski added 6 points with a pair of 3-pointers while Tess Conforti grabbed 7 rebounds.

Alex Kelly had 5 rebounds and 3 assists and Tori Meyer collected a pair of assists and rebounds.

Barrington will meet Buffalo Grove in today's tourney wrap-up at 9:30 a.m.

St. Charles North 59, Buffalo Grove 45: Kendra Lee scored a career-high 21 points with four 3-pointers and 4 rebounds for the Bison (1-14) at Dundee-Crown.

Emma Lozano added 8 points (two 3-pointers) while Jackie Bickhaus had 4 assists, 2 rebounds and a 3-pointer. Alyssa Ramos and Sydney Fortman each had 4 rebounds.
