Palatine rolls at Wheaton North

Palatine's girls basketball team won its first game at the 34th annual Bill Neibch Falcon Classic at Wheaton North High School by defeating Elgin 54-17 on Tuesday.

The No. 2 seeded Pirates (10-2), who have won four straight games, will face No. 7 Downers Grove North in Wednesday's 4:30 p.m. quarterfinal.

DGN won in double overtime over St. Charles East.

Leading Palatine's offense was Kendra Lindell, who tossed home 14 points with four 3-pointers.

Teammates Jenny Myslinski (7 points), Kacie Filian (6 points) and Sarah Jasonowicz (3 points) each had a 3-pointer.

Filian handed out 5 assists followed by Jasonowicz (3), Anja Jacobsen (2) and Myslinski (2).

Sydney Rzepka and Melanie Simon led the Pirates on the boards with 6 rebounds apiece while Myslinski had five.

West Aurora 49, Schaumburg 45: Ariana Doroskin (14 points, 7 rebounds), Kendall Fredrickson (12 points, 5 rebounds) and Kayla Patterson (8 points, 4 assist) led the Saxons (1-12) in the first-round game of the Falcon Classic at Wheaton North.

The Saxons will face Glenbard North in the consolation bracket today at noon.

Cary-Grove 45, Conant 44: Abby Getka (10 points) hit a 15-foot baseline jumper at the buzzer to give the Trojans (8-5) the dramatic win in the opening round of the Libertyville tourney.

Katie Sowa scored a game-high 21 points for the Trojans who won their third straight game.

Cate Fitzgerald led Conant (3-10) with 14 points and four 3-pointers while Ania Baker added 11 and Hannah Shulman 8.

"Cate Fitzgerald hit a lot of big shots," said Conant coach Deirdre Naughton. "Stephanie Mazurek played great. She was all over the court. She gets her hand on every single ball and brings energy to every game."

The Cougars trailed by 10 points and took the lead in the final 15 seconds by 1 point.

"We came back and so I am proud of the girls," Naughton said. "It's hard to play the day after Christmas but everyone has to do it."

Maine West 72, Barrington 18: Angela Dugalic (10 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals), Rachel Kent (10 points,), Vanessa Reyes (9 points), Allison Pearson (8 points) and Alisa Fallon (8 assists) led Maine West (14-0) in the opening round of the Komaromy Classic at Dundee-Crown in Carpentersville.

The Warriors advance to today's 5 p.m. quarterfinal and will face Fenwick.

Barrington (4-9) was led by Taylor Thompson (7 points) and Rachel Mori (6).

Fenwick 63, Prospect 45: Prospect (7-4) was led by Emily Frasco (13 points, 5 rebounds) and Jessica Kowalczyk (11 points, 4 rebounds) in its first game of the Dundee-Crown tournament. Abbey Danciu added 5 points while Margherite Pettenuzzo, Stephanie Kowalczyk, Ashley Adams Sara Biesterfeldt each had 4.

Prospect faces Barrington in consolation play today at 9:30 a.m.

Naperville Central 56, Buffalo Grove 34: Playing their first game at the Dundee-Crown tourney, the Bison were led by Megan Fontanetta's 7 points. Macy Floro added 6 while Sydney Fortman and Kendra lee chipped in 5 apiece.

BG (1-12) will face Resurrection at 5:30 p.m. today in consolation play.

St. Viator 57, Lane Tech 47: Seniors Myia Clark (game-high 22 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals) and Olivia Solimene (19 points, 2 assists, steals) led St. Viator (8-5) to the win in the first game of its own Blenner Classic.

Leyden 43, Zion-Benton 34: Pamela Colmenares' 14 points led Leyden to the win in its first game at the St. Viator Blenner Classic.

Wheeling 68, Maine East 32: Wheeling won its first game at the St. Viator Blenner Classic led Nosa Igiehon (20 points) and Morgan Collar (14 points).

The Wildcats (8-5) had eight 3-pointers in the contest, including three from Chloe Drozdz (9 points) and two apiece from Tommy Jean Helms (10 points) and Sophia Stanke (6 points).
