Montini's Patty earns MVP distinction

Montini senior Aaliyah Patty has earned Daily Herald MVP honors for her recent girls basketball performances.

Aaliyah Patty, Montini: The 6-foot-3 senior, an Ohio State recruit, earned MVP honors at the Marian Catholic Invite, leading Montini to the title. She had 21 points, 12 rebounds and 8 blocks in the final vs. Fenwick. Patty also had 10 points and 8 rebounds vs. Neuqua Valley and 17 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocks vs. Joliet Catholic, both wins.

Erin McGrath, Hersey: Senior Erin McGrath enjoyed the finest game of her career when she scored a personal-best 22 points in a 53-45 win at Elk Grove. The 5-foot-11 forward truly put in an all-around effort, collecting 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals in the Mid-Suburban East game. McGrath also had 14 rebounds and 6 points in a 50-40 nonconference win over St. Viator.

Klaire Steffens, Stevenson: The 6-foot senior has enjoyed a December to remember. Before verbally committing this week to the University of Chicago, she scored a career-high 25 points in the Patriots' 58-33 win over Libertyville. In Stevenson's previous game, a 46-21 rout of Zion-Benton, she tied her season high of 23 points.

Margaret Whitley, Geneva: This 5-foot-9 senior shooting guard led top-ranked Geneva to a pair of wins last week, pushing the defending Class 4A state champs' winning streak to 25. Whitley topped the Vikings with 20 points including four 3-pointers in a 61-34 win over Schaumburg. The University of Alabama-Birmingham recruit also led Geneva with 19 points in a 52-35 win at Batavia. She scored 8 points in the first quarter as Geneva raced to a 19-2 lead. Whitley once again hit four 3-pointers while adding 6 rebounds and 2 steals.
