Maine West continues to roll

Maine West's impressive start continued on Tuesday night in Des Plaines.

After winning its five games at the Hoffman Estates Pilgrim Classic by an average of 52.8 points, the Warriors girls basketball team posted a 60-35 win over Glenbrook South, which entered the game with a 5-0 record.

Alisa Fallon (17 points, 4 assists), Catherine Johnson (13 points), Rachel Kent (12 points) and Allison Pearson (8 points) led the Warriors to a 6-0 record. Sophomore Angela Dugalic collected 10 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Johnson, Kent and Fallon each had a 3-pointer.

Elk Grove 45, Conant 35: Visiting Elk Grove raised its record to 4-2 as Megan Murray (15 points), Rachel Kandefer (10 points, 8 rebounds) and Zoe Blomquist (8 points) helped pave the way in the MSL crossover. Cate Fitzgerald (13 points) and Stephanie Mazurek (9 points) led Conant (1-4).

Prospect 68, Schaumburg 53: Seniors Emily Frasco (17 points) and Sara Biesterfeldt (16) each connected for three 3-pointers as the visiting Knights improved to 3-2 with the MSL crossover win.

Ashley Adams also reached double figures with 12 points while Jessica Kowalczk added 9. Marguerite Pettenuzzo and Abbey Danciu also had 3-point baskets fro the winners.

Vicky Aguirre led the Saxons (0-6) with a game-high 20 points while Kayla Patterson added 10. Ariana Doroskin (8 points) had a pair of 3-pointers and Emma Aguilar had one.

Rolling Meadows 59, Barrington 53: Junior guard Lily Greifenstein scored a career-high 20 points with two 3-pointers as visiting Rolling Meadows improved to 4-3 with the MSL crossover triumph.

"Lily Greifenstein finished some big plays around the rim for us down the stretch," said Meadows coach Ryan Kirkorskly. "And Susannah Holifield really battled for us on both ends of the floor."

Sophomore Bridget Rolla (12 points and) and junior Alexis Davis (10 points) also reached double figures.

Melissa Spiwak chipped in 8 points for the Mustangs, who rallied from a 17-12 first-quarter deficit to lead 31-27 at intermission.

Sophomore Taylor Thompson scored 20 points and grabbed 21 rebounds for Barrington while teammate Shanna Turczynski added 15 points (three 3-pointers) and 4 assists. Tori Meyer chipped in 9 points with 6 assists while Rachel Mori had 4 assists.

"We took a big step in the right direction tonight," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro. "The kids played as a team, and defensively I thought they forced Meadows into some quick shots."

Tess Conforti pulled down 10 rebound for the Fillies (1-5).

"Tess and Taylor did a tremendous job rebounding and Shanna certainly looked good offensively, "Barreiro added. "We got some great minutes out of Mori and Faulkner as well.

"We keep telling this group to believe in themselves and work together and while we were disappointed we didn't pull out the win, I think they understand that we had our chances against a good Meadows team and to learn from this and apply it going forward."

Palatine 42, Buffalo Grove 24: Jenny Myslinski (12 points) and Anja Jacobsen (10) each had two 3-pointers to lead the host Pirates (5-0) in the MSL crossover. Teammates Kacie Filian and Kendra Lindell each chipped in 7 with one 3-pointer apiece.

Alyssa Floro led BG (1-5) with 8 points.

Wheeling 41, Hoffman Estates 35: Wheeling improved to 5-1 as Nansy Velev scored a game-high 18 points with four 3-pointers. Morgan Collar added 12 points for the visiting Wildcats in the MSL crossover.

Chloe Drozdz added 6 points and Nosa Igiehon 5.

Hoffman Estates (1-5) was led by junior Alysa Dupart who had 13 points and three 3-pointers while teammate Tayler Williams added 10 points with three 3-pointers.
