Tylka helps Wauconda to season-opening win

Junior forward Allie Tylka scored 21 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Wauconda's girls basketball team opened its season by beating Belvidere 52-41 in the Wauconda tournament Thursday night.

Bulldogs freshman guard Ella Karg added 11 points, including a 3, and senior guard Po Kimbell contributed 8 points. Wauconda jumped out to a 19-6 lead after one quarter but allowed Belvidere to pull within 37-31 entering the fourth.

"It was a roller coaster of a game," Wauconda coach Jaime Dennis said. "We came out strong and aggressive defensively in the first and built a nice lead. We let our defense create our offense. Unfortunately, we slowed down in the second and third, played hesitant and let them back in the game. Allie Tylka was solid defensively and took control in the fourth to finish the game."

The tournament resumes Friday with Wauconda playing Kaneland at 7 p.m.

Round Lake 48, Metea Valley 38: At Maine East, the Panthers were led by Samantha Nicoline with 16 points.
