Libertyville's Buchert picks up MVP nod
Margaret Buchert of Libertyville is this week's Daily Herald MVP for girls basketball.
Margaret Buchert, Libertyville: Keeping alive a winning streak required a wild finish. The senior point guard delivered it in unlikely fashion, stunning Lake Forest with a running, left-handed hook shot from the top of the key that banked in to beat the buzzer. The winning 3-pointer from the DePauw University recruit gave her a team-high 15 points and gave the Wildcats a 42-39 victory, which was their 12th in a row.
Macy Floro, Buffalo Grove: The Bison senior guard helped lead BG to three wins in five days. After getting 8 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in a 36-22 win over Rolling Meadows, she came back with 18 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in a 59-49 win over Barrington. Floro capped the week with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals in a 46-37 triumph over Glenbrook North.
Kendall Holmes, Benet: The 5-foot-11 senior guard helped the Daily Herald's top-ranked team to a post-finals week 45-43 win against Fenwick in the East Suburban Catholic Conference. The DePaul University recruit had 10 points, 5 assists, 6 rebounds and 3 steals against the Friars.
Aaliyah Dixon, Larkin: After teammate Brianna Young reached 1,000 points in December, this 5-foot-9 senior and 4-year starter also hit the milestone when she knocked down a midrange jumper from the elbow while scoring a team-high 12 points against South Elgin last week. Dixon followed with a 24-point game including four 3-pointers in Larkin's victory over Elgin.
