Grayslake North wins as freshman Jankowski scores 23

Freshman guard Dominic Jankowski scored 23 points to lead Grayslake North's boys basketball team to its first win of the season, 80-48 over host Johnsburg in the Johnsburg/Richmond-Burton Thanksgiving tournament on Tuesday night.

Jason Donohue and Jamon Thomas added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Knights (1-1).

Schurz 81, Grant 71: At Grant, guard Nakyel Shelton scored a game-high 28 points, sinking four 3-pointers and going 10 of 13 from the foul line, as Schurz improved to 2-0 in the tournament.

Mikal Ashley led five players in double figures for Grant (0-2) with 25 points and 9 rebounds. The hosts received 10 points apiece from Neil Knudsen, Luke Bedrosian, Chad Kiesgen and Carter Kaye (three 3-pointers). Kiesgen, a 6-foot-1 freshman guard, also had 9 rebounds.

For Schurz, Kaevon Anderson (15 points), Louis Abraham (12), Jeremiah Smith (12) and Jarrod Wormely (10) also scored in double figures.

North Lawndale 61, Carmel 48: At Grant, Larry Johnson had 19 points, including 3 dunks, and 13 rebounds, as the Phoenix improved to 2-0 in the tournament.

Kimahri Wilson led Carmel (0-2) with 19 points, including 9 of 10 from the foul line. Bryce Moore added 13 points, hitting four 3-pointers, for the Corsairs. Coby Brame grabbed 10 rebounds and scored 6 points.

Evanston 51, Libertyville 46: At St. Viator, Evanston, last season's Class 4A runner-up, had its hands full in its season opener, but the Wildkits showed poise down the stretch to come away with the win.

Down three, Evanston went ahead 44-43 on junior guard Elijah Bull's steal and layup with 2:40 left in the fourth quarter. The Wildkits made all four of their free throws in the final minute to clinch the victory.

"Credit our guys," Evanston coach Mike Ellis said. "They didn't fold, they didn't panic. They stayed the course, made some effort plays, made some intelligent plays in last three minutes of fourth quarter."

The Wildkits (1-0) jumped out to a 6-0 lead and went into half ahead 24-18. The Wildcats (1-1) tied the game at 33-33 after three quarters. Senior guard Jackson Watson's 3-pointer gave Libertyville a 43-40 lead before Evanston answered.

"We came out ready to play and finished ready to play," Ellis said.

Evanston junior guard Isaiah Holden scored 11 points.

Senior forward Patrick Graham led Libertyville with 20 points. Junior guard Blake Ellingson added 12 points. Watson finished with nine, all on 3-pointers.

Round Lake 69, Marian Central 45: At Woodstock, Deveauntay McNeal scored 23 points to lead the Panthers to their first win of the season in the Hoops for Healing tournament.

Kevonne Peterson had 10 points for Round Lake.

Huntley 62, Wauconda 54: At Johnsburg, the Bulldogs fell to 1-1 in the Johnsburg/Richmond-Burton Thanksgiving tournament, despite Donovan Carter's 17 points.

Garrison Carter had 11 points and 6 rebounds for Wauconda and Benji Chung chipped in 10 points.
