Miller era at Prospect begins with a win
Sophomore guard Eliot Dojutrek began her varsity career with a team-high 16 points and senior forward Ashley Adams added 10 points with 3 rebounds to help lead Prospect to a 59-45 triumph over Niles West in an opening-round game of the York girls basketball tournament Monday.
The victory was the first for Knights coach Marie Miller, one of Prospect's all-time great centers who was named to take over the program last April.
Miller was the Knights' freshman coach last winter and had a brief midseason stint as the interim varsity coach when the team went 4-0 under her leadership.
The 2006 Prospect graduate also got 8 points from seniors Abbey Danciu and Helen Siavelis (two 3-pointers) and 7 apiece from senior Stephanie Kowalczyk and sophomore Mia Gusloff.
Senior Jessica Kowalczyk also hit a 3-pointer for Prospect, which trailed 15-12 after one quarter but led 25-21 at intermission.
Elk Grove 49, Antioch 25: Megan Murray (12 points), Isabella Tierney (11), Olivia Masnica (9), Lili Duckman (7) and Kaitlyn Ingebrigsten (6) led Elk Grove to a win in its first game at the Vernon Hills tourney. Tierney and Duckmann each had 3-pointers for the Grens.
Downers Grove South 65, Conant 39: Neeha Kakuturu (8 points), Chikere Oducha (8) and Hannah Shulman (7) paced Conant in its first game of the York tournament. Shulman converted a pair of 3-point baskets while teammates Abbey DiSalvo and Kakuturu each had one.
Schaumburg Christian 53, Westlake Christian 27: Freshman Summer Reid scored 18 points to lead Schaumburg Christian to an opening-night nonconference win. Senior Nicole Toth added 13 points for the winners and sophomore Rachel Csoka had 10.
