Kerr paces Grant's victory; Carmel Catholic tops Lakes

John Kerr scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Grant's boys basketball team beat visiting Hoffman Estates 58-52 in nonconference action Saturday night.

Ben Kusiak added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the Bulldogs (9-8), who won their third game in a row and moved above .500 for the first time this season. Andy Kaye had 10 points and 5 rebounds, and Logan Lewis dished out 8 assists.

Carmel 53, Lakes 43: Brian Julian and Evan Myers scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, to lead the host Corsairs to the nonconference win.

Carmel improved to 10-12, while Lakes fell to 7-11.

Schurz 70, Mundelein 56: At the United Center, the Mustangs dropped the nonconference game.

Mundelein (4-17) led 17-11 after the first quarter but trailed 33-28 at halftime and 46-39 after three.

North Chicago, 63, Lakes 41: On Friday night, the visiting Warhawks led from the opening tip.

North Chicago improved to 6-0 in the Northern Lake County Conference. Lakes fell to 7-10 and 3-4.
