Moertl shoots Palatine past Barrington

Jake Moertl scored a game-high 18 points, all on 3-pointers, as Palatine's boys basketball team earned a 51-39 victory over visiting Barrington on Friday in Mid-Suburban West play.

The Pirates got more than half their scoring in the fourth quarter, when they produced 26 points. That was more than enough to overcome the 1-point deficit they faced entering the last period.

Johnny O'Shea contributed 14 points and Lamon Berry had 8 and Cortez Hogans 7 for Palatine (8-14, 3-3).

Anthony Spann had a pair of 3s and finished with a team-best 14 points for Barrington (12-6, 2-4), and teammate Jack Reinhard had 13 points.

St. Viator 51, Joliet Catholic 33: The Lions picked up a road victory to maintain their share of the East Suburban Catholic Conference lead.

St. Viator improved to 7-10 overall and 4-0 in the league.

Hersey 65, Elk Grove 49: The Huskies improved to 10-8 overall and 5-1 in the Mid-Suburban East by winning at Elk Grove.

Hersey and Prospect remain tied for the East Division lead in the MSL.

Maine West 54, Maine East 29: The Warriors picked up a Central Suburban North victory by winning at home.
