Huntley, Batavia, St. Edward continue hot starts

The girls basketball teams from Huntley, Batavia and St. Edward continued to rack up wins on Saturday. Batavia won twice at the Marian Catholic tournament, while Huntley and St. Edward were each victorious in nonconference games.

And in Elgin, Westminster Christian senior Maddie Versluys became the school's all-time leading scorer in basketball, boys or girls.

Batavia 62, Bloom 40: Hannah Frazier had 26 points and 11 rebounds in the Bulldogs' first win of the day. Elena Cabrera added 9 points and Morgan Erickson chipped in 7 points, 3 assists and 3 steals.

Batavia 68, Neuqua Valley 41: Frazier was even more dominant in Batavia's second win at Marian Catholic, scoring 33 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Jess Koch and Geddy Rerko added 7 points each while Shea Bayram (6 points, 3 assists), Hailey Orman (6 points, 3 assists) and Bethany Orman (5 assists) also contributed to the win for the Bulldogs (10-1).

Huntley 46, Barrington 34: The Red Raiders moved to a perfect 11-0 for the season with this win. Ali Andrews led the way with 21 points, while Kayla Barreto had 8 and Morgan Clausen and Paige Renkosik added 7 each.

St. Edward 52, West Chicago 40: Madelyn Spagnola had 22 points and 6 steals to lead the Green Wave (7-2) to a nonconference win on the road. Yssa Sto. Domingo (13 points, 6 steals) and Mallory Rejman (9 points) also contributed for St. Edward.

Aurora Christian 65, Westminster Christian 29: Despite the loss, Westminster's Maddie Versluys became the school's all-time leading basketball scorer by hitting for 16 points, which gives her 1,536 for her career. She also had 8 steals and 5 rebounds. Kirsten Madsen led Aurora Christian (6-3, 2-0) in the Northeastern Athletic Conference win, while Sami Hultine added 11 for the Eagles. Elise VanNoord had 6 points, while Hannah Haecker pulled down 12 rebounds and Emily Lamp 7 for the Warriors (3-6, 1-2).

Harvest Christian 51, IMSA 20: Alyssa Iverson led the way for the Lions in this NAC win with 19 points. Katie Kaldenberger added 11 and Paulina Castro scored 8 for Harvest (6-4, 2-0).

South Elgin 68, Schaumburg 64: Bridgette Williams had 23 points, Nadia Yang scored 15 and Mackie Kelleher added 10 to lead the Storm (5-3) to a nonconference win.

St. Ignatius 45 Rosary 26: Taylor Drozdowski had 10 points for Rosary (4-6, 0-4) in this GCAC loss.
