Batavia wins at the buzzer

Danny Pieczynski swished a 3-pointer from the left wing at the buzzer to give Batavia a 41-40 victory over Downers Grove South on Monday at York's Jack Tosh Holiday Tournament.

Trailing 40-38 Canaan Coffey missed a 3-pointer that would have given Batavia the lead with 20 seconds to play. Coffey stole the ball to give the Bulldogs another chance, but Chasen Peez couldn't get his shot to drop.

Downers Grove South missed a free throw with 7 seconds left, and Batavia raced up court and found Pieczynski who made the game-winner.

Canaan Coffey also ended the first-half with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer for the Bulldogs, who will play Sandburg at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

If Batavia (8-5) wins Tuesday it will play for the consolation championship at noon Wednesday.
