Quinn: Brother devastated after losing coaching job

SPRINGFIELD — Gov. Pat Quinn says the administration of his alma mater has let down students and alumni by firing his brother, who was a longtime basketball coach.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported John Quinn was let go this week as Fenwick High School’s head basketball coach but is still on the faculty. He’s been a teacher for more than three decades.

The governor told reporters Thursday he feels the Oak Park school where he graduated has “lost its soul” and it’s a blow to his brother.

John Quinn teaches social studies. He received a 1992 Gold Apple Award and was named to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2010.

The school’s athletic director in a memo says Quinn made many contributions to the program and remains valued faculty.
