Hoffman Estates, Conant advance to regional semis

The No 14-seeded Hoffman Estate girls basketball team improved to 11-14 on Monday night with 57-50 win over No. 20 Deerfield in the play-in game of the Class 4A Grayslake North regional.

Hawks coach Mike Nocella will take his Hawks back north today to face No. 3 Zion-Benton in the 6 p.m. semifinal.

Senior Becca Stoczynski led Hoffman on Monday with a game-high 26 points (two 3-point baskets) while senior teammate Destinee Young contributed 15 points and junior Andrea Wolinski 12.

Conant 68, Round Lake 23: Coach Dan Travers watched his No. 12-seeded Cougars score a season-high 68 points and improve to 13-14 with the play-in victory at the Wheeling Class 4A regional.

Alissa Wachal, a 5-foot-10 sophomore forward, was the top scorer for Conant with 10 points.

Conant will face No. 5 Stevenson (18-8) in the semifinals today at 7:30 p.m. today.

The first game at 6 p.m. matches No. 13 Libertyville and No. 4 Palatine (19-9).
