With nearly 2,000 spectators in the stands and going up against one of the state girls basketball powerhouses, Rolling Meadows coach Ryan Kirkosky said his Mustangs got everything they could have asked for on Saturday night at Quincy Notre Dame High school .

“Except a win,” he added.

But it took the unbeaten Raiders (22-0), ranked No. 3 in Class 3A, overtime before posting an 87-82 victory the Mustangs, ranked No. 3 in Class 4A.

“Absolutely one of the best teams we’ve seen,” said Kirkorsky, whose team is 24-2.

“Their post player (senior Jordan Frericks, a 6-foot-2 forward and Missouri recruit, who scored 25 points)might be the best player we’ve seen all season.”

The Mustangs saw something else they hadn’t seen much of this season — being down 11 points in the first quarter.

“I was extremely proud of our kids and their desire to fight back and not concede anything the entire game,” Kirkorsky said. “We had to deal with a tough crowd and a great team, and we battle through it the whole game.”Alexis Glasgow (27 points), Jackie Kemph (21 points), Jenny Viet (17 points) and Morgan Keller (11 points, 8 rebounds) led the Mustangs’ offense.

Kemph handed out 12 assists.

Glasgow had five 3-pointers and Vliet had 4.

“Alexis and Jenny continued to knock down big shots to keep us in game,” Kirkorsky said.

Glasgow’s 3-pointer with 41.6 points tied the game at 71, and that remained the score going into OT.

“We wanted another test against one of the top teams in the state,” said Kirkorsky, whose team’s only other loss was to Montini (also on the Broncos’ floor), the No. 1 team in Class 3A. “It was definitely a unique experience for our kids.”

The game was part of the ‘Subway Shootout’ at Quincy Notre Dame High School and was sandwiched between two boys games.

Notre Dame has won the last two Class 2A titles and will play for in the Class 3A tourney this season. The Raiders have not lost to an Illinois team the last three seasons.
