Basketball Focus
Host Maine West took Highland Park to overtime before falling 45-41 on Friday in a Central Suburban North boys basketball game.
The Warriors (9-7, 1-4) led 31-27 after the third quarter but managed only 5 points in the fourth quarter and another 5 in OT.
Highland Park converted 14 of 22 foul shots, while Maine West was awarded just three trips to the line and made 2.
Tom Kukec led the Warriors with 9 points, and Matt Finnander, Allante Bates and Anthony Dones had 8 apiece.
Leyden 52, Willowbrook 49: Jonathan Woolf led host Leyden (11-4, 2-4) in the West Suburban Gold game with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Omar Lozoya added 12 points and Anthony Gonzalez 10 for the Eagles, who trailed the Warriors 49-48 with just over a minute left in the game.
A layup by Woolf gave Leyden the lead for good before Lozoya finished the game off with a pair of free throws to ice it.
Tiger Greene led Willowbrook (7-8, 0-5) with 17 points while Joshua Joiner added 15 points.
Alden 47, Christian Liberty 43: The Chargers got 16 points from Marcus Silva, 9 from David Colbert and 8 from Wesley Swiderek but came up short after being outscored 11-5 in the fourth quarter.
