Malmberg gets Grant past Johnsburg
Matt Malmberg hit a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left in overtime, lifting Grants boys basketball team to a 73-72 win over visiting Prairie Ridge in a nonconference thriller Friday night.
Bulldogs junior guard Rayvon Jones had forced the extra session with a 3-pointer at the buzzer. Jones finished with a career-high 23 points, as Grant (3-4) snapped a four-game losing streak.
Tom Blanchette and Steve Dunning added 14 and 10 points, respectively, for the Bulldogs.
Marian Catholic 54, Carmel 37: The visiting Corsairs lost their East Suburban Catholic Conference opener, despite a season-high 16 points from junior center Jack George. Cullen Barr added 10 points for Carmel (4-3).
Tyler Ulis had 20 points for Marian Catholic.
