Fremds girls basketball team rallied from a 6-point halftime deficit to defeat host Lakes 63-49 in the second round of the Turkey Thriller on Friday night.
Trailing 31-25 after being plagued by foul trouble in the first 16 minutes, sophomore Haley Gorecki (24 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists) and senior Ashley McConnell (18 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) helped fuel the Vikings second-half comeback.
Our entire starting lineup was in foul trouble the entire second quarter, said Fremd coach Dave Yates, whose team improved to 2-0.
Other offensive contributors were Marilyn Lortz (7 points), Bernie Williams (6), Catherine Ernst (4), Shannon Wittel (2) and Erica Simios (2).
Once we adjusted a few things and stopped committing silly fouls we finished the game much better than we started, Yates added. We played a nice second half. Credit Lakes, they came out on fire and played a nice game.
