Simeon edges Maine West
Simeon's girls basketball team came to Des Plaines on Tuesday night with an impressive record of 20-3 and the Wolves showed it was no fluke.
The girls from Chicago, ranked No. 8 in Class 3A, handed Maine West (No. 2 in Class 4A) a 53-50 nonconference loss.
It was only the third loss in 21 games this season for the Warriors, and the first time head coach Kim de Marigny suffered back-to-back losses since taking over the program for the 2016-17 season.
Senior Angela Dugalic led the Warriors with 22 points, followed by Lena Albo (8), Brianna Hernandez (6) and Dylan VanFleet (5).
West lost a 61-58 decision to Indiana's top-ranked Class 4A team Northwestern (Kokomo) last Saturday at the Coach Kipp's Hoopsfest at Willowbrook High School in Villa Park.
The Warriors' only other loss is to the No. 2 team in Class 3A, Montini, a 41-40 decision in the Chicagoland Invite held at Fremd High School in December. That snapped a 44-game winning streak for the Warriors, the defending Class 4A state champs.
