Dujotrek's buzzer-beater lifts Prospect

Junior Eliot Dojutrek got Prospect's girls basketball team off to a rousing start as she hit a buzzer-beater for a 50-48 win over Oswego at the York tournament on Monday night.

"It was a battle from start to finish but we were able to come out on top," said Prospect second-year coach Marie Miller. "I could not be more proud of the leadership and confidence I saw in Eliot tonight.

"She set a goal for herself this season to finish her takes and did she ever deliver tonight."

Dujotrek finished with 13 points.

"It was a great effort by all 15 ladies getting each other ready for this exciting week," Miller added. "It was fun to see the varsity debut of sophomores Summer (Sroduski), Macy (Zei) and Andie (Will) as well."

Sarah Skaggs also had 13 points for Prospect.

"Hats off to Oswego," Miller said. "They are very well-coached, disciplined and a hardworking team. They gave us a game from start to finish and I think we are both better for it."

Buffalo Grove 44, Palatine 35: Kendra Lee (13 points), Alyssa Ramos (12) and Megan Fontanetta (11) led host BG in the season opener. Kayla Miotk paced Palatine with 12 points.

Fremd 71, Lakes 19: Grace LaBarge (16 points, 3 rebounds, 5 steals), Emily Klaczek (13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals) and Katie Hansen (8 rebounds) helped lead Fremd in its first game of the Turkey Thriller.

"I was pleased with our play," said Fremd coach Dave Yates, whose team had 18 offensive rebounds. "Our depth was on full display tonight. We have a very deep and talented team. We look forward to improving as a team."

Elk Grove 67, Sycamore 64 (OT): Elk Grove won its season opener as Megan Murray led the way with 18 points and three 3-pointers.

York 71, Conant 30: Isabelle Tierney led Conant with 9 points in the opening round game of the York tourney.
