Lake Forest denies Stevenson outright NSC title

Jake Fisher scored 24 points, and Lake Forest denied Stevenson's boys basketball team the outright North Suburban Conference championship by upsetting the visiting Patriots 49-40 on Wednesday night.

Crawford Bolton added 10 points and 6 rebounds for Lake Forest (11-16, 6-8).

Stevenson (23-5, 12-2) finishes in a first-place tie with Waukegan, which defeated Lake Zurich 75-65. John Ittounas led the Patriots with 14 points.

Waukegan 75, Lake Zurich 65: The visiting Bulldogs won their North Suburban finale to earn a share of the conference championship with Stevenson.

Lake Zurich finishes 2-12 in NSC play and is 7-23 overall.

Libertyville 68, Zion-Benton 65: The host Wildcats celebrated 10 seniors and a victory in the North Suburban Conference finale for both teams.

Senior guard Josh Steinhaus scored a team-high 18 points for Libertyville (14-14, 6-8), while junior Jackson Watson added 16 and senior Brian Wilterdink contributed 15. The Wildcats also got 7 points from senior Travis Clark.

Amar Augillard scored 23 points to lead Zion-Benton (13-14, 6-8), which also got 12 points apiece from Damontae Taylor and Julian Ramirez.

"The tempo was set from the start where our seniors played entire first quarter and half of the second quarter," Libertyville coach Brian Zyrkowski said.

A big 3-pointer by Clark pulled Libertyville within 2 points in the fourth quarter. The score was tied with seconds remaining when Steinhaus found Watson for a 3 to put the Wildcats up 3 with 2.5 seconds left. A last-second heave by Augillard missed.

Libertyville hit 13 3-pointers.

"Being able to see our seniors compete tonight on their night is very special," Zyrkowski said. "These seniors will always hold a special place in my heart. I have had the pleasure of working with these young men from when they were in our youth camps all the way through high school. We are excited for our next game next Wednesday vs. Hersey in the first round of the Lake Forest regional. This was a good win to bring momentum into state playoffs."

Warren 55, Mundelein 49 (OT): The visiting Blue Devils prevailed in the North Suburban Conference finale for both teams.

Warren (14-15) finished 6-8 in the NSC.

Mundelein (19-11, 6-8) was led by Scottie Ebube's 20 points and 12 rebounds. Conor Enright had 9 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, and Jack Bikus chipped in 7 points and 8 rebounds. Mundelein's Andrew Gonzalez had 7 points and 7 boards.

Wauconda 75, Antioch 70: Donovan Carter's 21 points (two 3-pointers) and 6 rebounds led the host Bulldogs in their Northern Lake County Conference finale.

Nick Bulgarelli added 16 points (three 3s) and Jason Carlson had 11 (three 3s) for Wauconda (15-14, 7-7).

Antioch (12-13, 4-9) received 34 points from Dan Filippone and 19 from Jack Gillespie. The Sequoits conclude NLCC action on Friday when they host Lakes.
